Kitchen Redo, Inspired by Brittany!

Our house is about 100 years old and the owners before us somehow like the knotty pine look and redid the cupboards, and used paneling throughout the house (which we have slowly taken down; paneling: yuck!). So, I have wanted to really give this house its original look. I don't know if the colors were popular during that century, but I like them anyhow. We have taken down all the wallpapers (well, almost) and fixed the plaster and painted. So, we are making head way. Here are a few pictures of the before look. I had already taken off most of the doors, so I didn't get any good pictures, but you will get the idea.
That really big island that was in the middle of the floor, blocking your way to the refrigerator and the pantry, is gone! My burden of it is gone! ~ It just was a junk collector anyhow.

And here are the after pictures. You can't see the antiquing very well, but it is there.

I did my antiquing different than Brittany. She used a glaze, and my husband, the professional painter, brought me regular paint because that is the only way he knew to do it. Seeing as Sherwin-Williams (or anything else at that matter) is 45 min away, I decided to give it a try. I painted the base color a very light cream. Then for my antiquing I used a very light sage green. I painted the light green completely on and then wiped it almost completely off. This allowed the green to go into all the cracks and crevices in this knotty pine wood. It turned out really nice to my surprise, but took a lot of elbow grease, seeing as this paint dried very fast.

It looks great! I love how you used the green color - very original. You did a great job, I know it's A LOT of work! My hubby was also a pro painter, and didn't know a thing about glazing, so he stayed completely out of the project. He did all the remodel work, and I did all the cabinet painting. It worked out pretty good, but it was more work than I bargained for!!

You made a comment on my blog, so I thought I'd check out your blog :) I love your blog title, it is too cute! Your kitchen project looks great! I wanted to do the antiquing to my kitchen cabinets, but I was too lazy and decided to just paint them. We live in a 100+ yr old house and there was paneling everywhere when we got here. We have taken it down, one room at a time and it looks much better! Of course after being here 8 years, it is time to start over, ha! --When I read that you were from Mt. Pleasant, I was like cool, I grew up 20 mins. from there. Then I read it was in IA, not MI. Oh well, I thought we had a little more in common. Have a great day and I might just keep stopping by from time to time, to see what you all are up to :)

Your kitchen turned out great!! I love the glazed look! I know it was a lot of hard work but I'm sure the results made it worth it for you!

Your kitchen does look great!

Here's is my response to you on my blog...just in case you don't get back over to check...

I found found that what is successful for both my husband and me is cutting carbs. Unless you drink diet soda...you'd have to stop that, BUT the progress you'd see would be worth it! I love pasta, chocolate, and lots of other things but I am not even tempted to digress--even for a birthday cake--in a few days. :-)

My SIL and many others have had significant success on weight watchers but tht just wasn't for us. But it might be for you.

No matter the plan you choose, choose something YOU can live with. For me, I can have carbs around ( cook pasta and bake goodies for my kids, etc)and it doesn't bother me. But that might be difficult for you...

So, think long term. Choose...and GO FOR IT!!!

Email me if you have specific questions about my plan...

It looks awsome. Glad you are enjoying yourself in your little house. It's nice to have the stamp of your own creativity in your home to kind of make it yours. It looks really cheerful. I have painted and remodeled more times than I care to remember but I always enjoyed the end result!! Love ya, Trisha

Amanda, Please, I'm not Mrs. McCarthy, please tell me I'm not. I"m just Holly, that's what my friends call me, anyway. About that Smokey song, I don't doubt that my son is the culpret, but to tell the truth, I don't even know that version. It sounds gross... I'll have to do a little research. LOL Like your kitchen by the way. H.

Very pretty!

This is the first time for me on your blog - I found it through a comment your left on Nicole Chmelar's blog. I just had to comment because I see you're also from IOWA! I love to meet fellow Iowans! :)

I see you live in Mt. Pleasant - our family was there quite a few years back to do revival services at the Nazarene church there! Do you know the pastor there?? They are really nice people.
